The forehand (the shot played on your right side if you are right-handed) is probably the most basic shot in tennis. During practice, most people use it to bring the ball into play. In matches this is done with a serve.
When we have a look at possible grips, swings, hitting stances and contact points, there are hundreds of ways to hit this shot. Let's have a look at the combinations that give you, as a beginner, the best results.

Here we go!
- use an Eastern Forehand Grip
- make a unit turn
- drop the racket face at the end of the backswing
- a forward swing that goes a good deal from low to high, ending near or over your left shoulder
- a square - or 'neutral' hitting stance, shifting your weight from the back to the front foot
- a contact point that is a bit ahead of your front foot at about hip-height
